Community Development
At CCID, we believe true development starts from within. By empowering farmers, supporting women and youth, and fostering sustainable livelihoods, we help communities break cycles of poverty and thrive with dignity and opportunity.
Sustainable Livelihoods as an Economic Human Right
CCID prioritizes securing sustainable livelihoods as part of its mission to uphold communities’ economic human rights. International frameworks such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights emphasize the obligation to protect these rights. Because many Cameroonians rely on subsistence and commercial farming, improving agricultural livelihoods directly enhances community well-being.
Strengthening Local Resources and Social Development
The organization promotes the use of local materials and human resources to improve both economic and social conditions. Through formal and informal learning methods, CCID works with communities to build skills and support development. Women and children perform most family labor, yet female farmers often remain below the poverty line due to limited control over productive resources, leaving them vulnerable to economic insecurity.
Empowering Communities for Economic Autonomy
In response to these structural barriers, CCID seeks practical ways to help individuals gain greater control over their livelihoods. Their empowerment efforts focus on reducing vulnerabilities, increasing economic independence, and creating opportunities that allow women and youth to participate more fully in productive activities. These actions aim to strengthen community resilience and promote long-term economic stability.
Improving Agricultural Outcomes Through Practical Solutions
A concrete example of this work is the provision of hand-pushed carts to women’s farming groups in Tole, Buea. Many women previously lost significant amounts of produce due to decay and transportation challenges. The carts reduced post-harvest losses, improving both food security and household income. This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 2, which target the eradication of poverty and hunger.
