Gender Equality
We believe that when women and girls rise, entire societies thrive. At CCID, we break barriers of discrimination, challenge harmful practices, and champion women’s rights—creating a future where equality is not a dream, but a reality.
Focus on Women’s and Girls’ Rights
The organization prioritizes the rights of young girls and women, recognizing gender as a universal factor driving poverty and injustice. Women face inequalities in political participation, access to resources, and vulnerability during crises. Transformational change requires shifting negative perceptions about women’s autonomy.
Violations of Reproductive and Human Rights
Young women disproportionately bear caregiving responsibilities and often experience violations of reproductive health rights due to unequal power dynamics. These violations contradict international human rights standards that demand elimination of gender-based injustices.
International Human Rights Framework
Cameroon has ratified agreements like CEDAW and the Maputo Protocol, both defining discrimination against women as any sex-based distinction or restriction that undermines women’s enjoyment of rights. These frameworks obligate society and the state to oppose gender discrimination.
Link Between Gender Inequality and Poverty
Gender inequality worsens poverty through unequal power relations, exclusion, injustice, and patriarchy. Many young girls are denied basic rights, and violence and discrimination remain widespread despite awareness raised by women’s rights organizations.
CCID’s Role in Advocacy and Support
CCID collaborates with local, national, and international institutions to promote women’s rights. Their work includes raising awareness, supporting women’s basic needs, and advocating for gender-responsive policies and laws to reduce violence and discrimination.
Addressing Harmful Practices and Implementing Programs
Recognizing harmful cultural practices such as FGM, forced early marriages, rape, and domestic violence, CCID conducts research and develops initiatives to combat gender-based violence. Their programs include school-based prevention, leadership training, human-rights education, SGBV awareness, community mediation, and publishing research to influence policy.
